The World according to Boys
I don't know if many people know of the vast entertainment value of children when they are not aware of your presence. Take tonight's dinner, for instance.
I put a skillet of fried ground beef, garlic and sauce on the table for dinner. I put a stack of plates and a few glasses, and a serving spoon in the general area. I asked the boys to come set the table for dinner, but Papa was busy on the phone, so I decided to fold another load of laundry before I called everyone to dinner.
Without my knowing it, Thomas and Liam sat at the table, got themselves plates of meat and began eating. I came out a few minutes into their meal, judging from their sauce-stained faces. They enjoyed their dinner. Patrick came out after me. As he climbed in to his chair, he proclaimed that he wanted some 'beef meat'. The following is a script his conversation with Liam:
Patrick: I want some beef meat.
Liam: That's not beef, it's sloppy joes.
Patrick. Oh. I want beef meat. I want sloppy joes.
Liam: Patrick, it's sloppy joes, because it got slopped.
Later, Patrick: Is this beef meat? Is it Trader Joe's? It's beef meat. I'm eating Beef Meat.

Growing up too fast
| Papa and Patrick study together. Patrick is a great tutor already! |
Thomas comes in to audit the course, luxuriously and in high style.
Here are Thomas and Liam, showing off the 'boy bed' in the boys' room...
The boys have learned how to care for others, and to be patient and keep trying even when there is no improvement for all their hard work.
Liam has generously offered to build a house for his brothers.
Patrick has grown a beard... in green. I never thought of him to experiment with colored hair...
